Maybe the windup is just a habit and a mental way to repeatable delivery.

The Big Unit really pitched from the stretch as well. He would just alter how high his leg kick was with runners on.

beyond Glasnow you have ALOT Of depth of guys that could prob just as easily pitch as well as Kuhl and Williams in 2018 and another handful that could be ready in 2019

so is there a market for guys like Kuhl and Williams with 5 years of control left and a body of work that behind them that shows they could be at least a #5 starter?

coming up you have you have 6 guys at AAA they could compete for a 4th/5th starter next spring if not earlier

Glasnow

Hutchinson

Brault

Eppler

Holmes

you also have former MLB starters, Cumpton and Sadler progressing well this season in their rehabs

in AA you have another 3 pitchers that will be ready for AAA next year. In Mcrae, Coley, and Anderson Plus Mitch Keller just got promoted there. and Brandon Waddell seems to be doing ok after an injury set back this year.

point is. there are about 12 guys for 2018/2019 potential fringe starters. There is a decent chance NONE of them will be better than a 4th starter.

But shouldn't a GM be able to get something for all that depth, if he is creative?

Also he's 12 feet tall, so even the smallest foot raise looks like a massive leg kick. :)

The reports must be backwards.  The stretch is what he struggled with, not the windup. Maybe that's why he's only pitching from the stretch?

Hope he is traded.   Our prospects are overvalued.   Or at least, not valued as much as others.   NH implied as much during his interview with cook and poni

That's my hope as well. Get those AAA numbers looking great.

Maybe he is working on the stretch? But I feel he has struggled with both positions. He gets enough guys on base to work on both.

Why it makes sense for Glasnow to pitch from the stretch is because he's 6'8". The toughest thing for guys this length is to repeat the same delivery over and over. That's why you don't see a whole lot of pitchers his height. This is probably why Randy Johnson also pitched from the stretch ? I'm really surprised to read all the negative posts regarding him ditching the windup. The guy is dominating AAA , throwing 3-4 MPH harder and is showing WAY better command and these guys want to poo hoo it ? What's the difference between a sour grapes Pirate fan and a puppy ?

1)He's not throwing harder

2) his command is so far a little bit better, not much. Its too small of a sample and too small of a difference to say for sure

3)he can throw the ball underhand for all that it matters

Remember how Tony Sanchez was throwing great and had figured it out yadda yadda all the reports coming from P2?

That he is throwing harder now than he did when he was in the majors this year is an indisputable fact.  He was not upper 90s in the majors and he was all over the place.  I am not convinced, though, that he is really any better, and I won't be until he does it in the majors.  I do not want him traded, though, unless he fetches a really good return.  He just has too high a ceiling to give up on yet. If we can move him one-for-one for a high-ceiling infield prospect, though, I would not complain.
