Possum, as the fearless leader of OBN, do you think we can raise a Billion Dollars though the internet?  Let's get the weight of OBN behind this and buy the team!

As Bob the Builder (not Nutting)  - WE CAN DO IT!

The Pirates main strategy is to fleece the fans and blame them.

Did you buy your season tickets yet for next year?

I have not.  I've let my rep know that that that I've reached my Popeye Point (a real condition!) - "that's all I can stands, I can't stands anymore!"

Three things about this that matter to me:

1) my son starts college next year and will be gone much of next summer.  If he were still at home I'd keep my tix, I would not allow anyone to steal away our time together.

2) I've always used tickets to give to folks who can't always go to games.  I can't go to all games (actually, the way my tickets are allocated, I have more than a full season worth of tickets).  I like giving them to people - I hate that this organization is causing me to end this.

3) I will confess that I'm pondering a 20 game plan in a much cheaper seat.  I've got a lot of "seniority" that I hate to walk away from.  I think 20 games will maintain my position.

If and when Possum's Partnership buys the buccos I'll be back, that is, assuming Possum doesn't start pocketing all the $$$!  (Possum is an honorable man, I'd be shocked, and Mrs Possum would keep him in line in any event).

What do you get with your seniority as a season ticket holder?

I have a higher right to seat upgrades (which I exercised for this season's tickets), more "points" which I can convert into different events or merchandise (points are awarded on type of plan, seat location and years of seniority. There are some pretty good events that I get invited to (I had the opportunity to participate in a Q&A with Neal, Frank and Clint yesterday, but I had a conflict and missed it unfortunately; been treated to a road game by bus; etc).

Most important, I love the Pirates and baseball. (We had pen's ST, but dropped them to keep our Pirate tix because we couldn't afford to keep both any longer). So it's no small thing to walk away. It's why this mess makes me angry - these bozos are impacting a lot of people who love the game and team. No indication they love the fans back....

Sounds like some good perks. How is that not an indication of giving the fans some love? I go to a lot of games and aren't getting those options.

Why did it take you ten years (Nuting/Huntington tenure together) to realize this or drop your tickets? If these two never changed and showed no signs of changing, why continue to give them money? Especially, if you think all they want is your money and don't care about the fans or winning.

Reminds of the end of one of the Rambo movies,

"So, what is it that you want John?"

"What do I want? I want what they want, and every other guy who went over there and spilled his guts and gave everything he had. I want just once, for our country (team) to love us as much as we love it."

Disclaimer...I am in no way, shape, or form comparing the relative insignificance of a baseball season to a war with real life or death consequences. I have a massive amount of respect for our military and the sacrifices they make.

Don't want to put words in VA's mouth, but as someone who would be a season ticket holder if I lived in Pittsburgh, I'd say it's because we're sick of that stuff. It doesn't matter. What the fans want, why they cheer for the team, is one thing and one thing only. Ws. As in wins. And lots of them.

They can sugarcoat this facade all they want with fireworks, bobble heads, Bucaroos Ask the Bucs or whatever they call it, and more for dedicated ST holders like VA. But at the end of the day, that's all it is...sugarcoating. In fact, I'd almost take it as a slap in the face. I'll bet if you asked every season ticket holder if they would rather the team spend $10 million wining and dining them over the year, or reinvest that in the team, I'd bet the response would be unanimous...PUT IT IN THE TEAM!!!

By analogy, it's like working for a company for 40 years, and on your retirement, they give you a nice greeting card. No bonus. No all expense paid vacation saying, "Thanks for all you've done for us." Not even a gift card for a nice night out with your spouse. A greeting card. Nice. Gee, thanks.

For next year ST holders are suddenly going to have even more perks. This year they increased the potatoes in the great pirogi race. Point - investing in a new potato rather than a 3rd basemen is not the kind of love most of us are looking for.

I defended this FO for many years. I saw the light in the off-season between 2015-2016. It was really hard. It was mega disappointing. But it is the truth. I love the Buccos. But I won't hide from the truth.

I agree with you. I also don't buy season tickets. I also don't complain and still buy season tickets. I certainly went to less games this year, they lost a lot of my money.

I just don't get why people who hate the ownership, say all they do is pocket money, don't care about the fans, don't care about winning, don't want to win, see no future and yet, they keep buying the product. It boggles my mind.

Well, I get that, given what VA said about his son. Nothing can replace time spent with family. Even if it is watching this putrid product. Pirates ownership and FO should be ashamed of themselves.

It is also sad to me how people look for the negatives. This ownership built a team to stop the 15 years of losing. Yeah, they lost some five years as they built it up from scratch. No easy task at all. We all saw it. We saw the future and what was happening. People started to buy in. Attendance was rising in 2011, 2012 like never before. Three years in a row of making the playoffs. But that is all erased after two losing seasons. Why is that? Why do people think they can't turn it around again? Everyone else can repeat history, except the Pirates. The bad does not outweigh the good. It might soon if they don't start winning, but they are not at that point yet. It's a shame people didn't enjoy 2011-2015 and just focus on complaining about 2016 and 2017.
