It's diversion. I don't believe it. Garcia would do very well here but would be pretty expensive by our cheap standards
It would be NH going back to his plan from when he actually won trades. AL pitcher with some pedigree, in this case a lefty, which further benefits him.
I believe he would be a sub 4.00 ERA pitcher without the DH pitching in PNC.
We will "show interest" and not sign him.
That said, I'm certainly in, if we do. Then, we just need a 3rd baseman and we may actually be getting serious about getting back into this thing...

Jaime Garcia is not an, "AL pitcher with some pedigree."
He's thrown 1053 ML innings. 44 of those innings were pitched in the American League...in 2017.
He's had a solid career as a back of the rotation starter, but he pitched less than half of one season in the AL, facing the DH.

Like Palmeiro, this would be exactly in the mold of what Pittsburgh looks for. San Diego trying to improve by talking to Hosmer ... Pittsburgh signs another reclamation project coming off a bad year from the Yanks. I can see it.

Fair point. I knew he got hit pretty good in the AL and thought he had more innings there last year. Maybe PNC would bring his NL line down from 4.3 to 4.
He was real good not too long ago servicable last year, and signing him keeps glasnow off the mound. I'm in and then we need an impact 3b to go along with our back of the rotation lefty
(We won't sign him anyway).

I thought the progress of Taillon, Williams and Kuhl last season was encouraging. Wouldn't make sense to swap Garcia in for any of them. Could they be trying to add a starter in anticipation trading Cole or Nova?

Rosenthal is quoted on mlbtr as saying Cole is a pitcher to keep an eye on. Makes you wonder.

I think Cole will be moved.

Before I didn't think so, but there are so many pitchers on the roster and there are continuing mentions of Cole on MLBTR. That can be just idle speculation, or it could be a sign his name has come up. If the Yankees get Stanton, I could see them wanting to add another pitcher (and Stanton's addition might make them more willing to part with a young prospect or two).

This is a case that doesn't make sense immediately. But we don't know if this would be part 1 of a multi-part move by Neal. So I give him the benefit of the doubt for now. Like I did,for a while, with the Charlie Morton trade....

I would swap Nova for Garcia all day long
