I watched all his starts and time and time again , he would get ahead 0-2 or 1-2 and batters would would off 4-5 pitches in what would end up a 10-11 pitch walk. I do realize he also just had stints where he walked 2 batters on 8-9 pitches but the point is where are the swings and misses ? 8.2 is lower that that of guys like Mike Leake .

I rarely recall Glasnow being 0-2 or 1-2.   Are you sure you're remembering correctly? Glasnow was perpetually behind and missing spots both inside and far outside the zone.

Did you see all of his starts ? He did have some games where he was getting ahead and then went to a high pitch count before finally waking the batter. No doubt he had many games , innings where he was all over the place pretty much the entire time.

Glasnow showed signs of good innings, but never a good overall game. the two games he won the Pirates scored 12 runs and 10 runs.

Baseball-reference breaks down stats per ball/strike counts.

I thought Glasnow was so wild, he was never in the zone.  He has some nasty stuff, but if he isn't throwing it for strikes, no one will swing in the majors.

My theory, which could be way off, is that in the minors he dominates because he is a top prospect and hitters want to show him up, get that hit off of him.  In the majors, players already made it.  They will wait for him to pitch to them.

I can't find that stat. I do know that his at 8.2 was terrible. Again .. I'm not sure of this but I do think the swing and miss ratio is calculated on pitched that the batter swings on.

Steve49, not sure if it came across correctly yesterday but I agree with you about the ratio -- you must swing.

For a point of reference Taillon was at 8.2 and Cole was 9.5 in 2017. Jake Arrietta was 8.7 in 2017 and 11.1 in his great Cy Young year of 2015.

How many of his starts did you see? I rarely saw the nasty stuff everyone talked about. At the MLB level he was far from impressive the few times I saw him. I was at his 1st MLB start and it was terribly unimpressive. The velocity didn't play well, he feel behind in counts, and runners just took off at will against him. I know he did make some adjustments and the velocity was better, but he was still a hot mess.

Like I said, he has had a few good innings. He has probably had two good starts in his career, one being his last start of 2016. Here is a video of some of his nasty stuff:

Yep ... and in addition to much of the nasty stuff everyone talked about in the minors disappearing and the rest of what you talk about , he was also VERY unlucky at times. Cheap hits at the worst times and some costly missed strikes by umps. But no doubt was what you said in almost every start... a "hot mess."
