Jung Ho Kang - Winter League

Post by dogknot17@yahoo.co »

Many players have season ending injuries and miss time and come back the next year. Kang can do that too. If he doesn't then he is a back up or is moved.

The Pirates still need to follow his progress and acquire a new third baseman. I still don't see him back this year based on his Korean probation. I hope he is back, but I still think 2019 is more likely. And who knows how good he will be after missing two seasons? Would the Pirates let him play in the Korean League? Is he even allowed with a MLB contract?

Kang is not coming back. The Pirates need to look for a new third baseman.

I agree, the worst that can happen then is if Kang comes back there is depth. Can't go into the season expecting Freese to get regular playing time.

If the Pirates arranged for Kang to play winter ball they must believe there's at least a chance he'll be back.

It is being reported that Kang has been released from his Dominican team. Final stats he hit .143 1 home run and 10 RBI. Not very promising winter league.

I know he's not earning service time or being paid now, but he's still got two years left on his contract. How does that work? If the Bucs release him, will they still be on the hook for that?

ETA Can they release him while he's still on the restricted list?

I imagine they could void his contract if they wanted to.

I thought if his contract time expired when he was still on the list then the contract was over.

Either way, there's no way I release him and give him an "out" to play somewhere else. Yeah I'm that spiteful.
