Matt Joyce to Athletics
Pending a physical Matt Joyce has agreed to a two year contract worth 11 million dollars. I did not expect the Bucs to bring him back in 2017.

I wonder if the Bucs did shop Joyce and S-Rod at trade deadline. Could be there weren't good offers or they didn't want to throw in the towel that early.

Another case that shows the Pirates that if they want to field a competetive team in 2017 they are going to have to spend money on good players. The days of the small market teams is closing in fast. Either revenue sharing and that money being spent on players or might want to close the doors.

What I don't get is the passive (no)response from the vast majority of owners. Gotta be at least 20 owners that are unhappy with the direction of MLB. why is everyone just going along with the insanity ?

If you listen to some of the sportscasters here in Pittsburgh the Pirates are making money from the ball team but the owner is using the revenue sharing money to finance his other real estate holdings. They have also commended on the fact that the owners do not have to account on what the revenue sharing money is spend on. True/False I do not know!

Why does Pirate ownership just go along?
McClatchy pushed for changes to system, not sure if the Pirates have done that as much since Nutting has taken over (could be he has tried to do so without letting it get out in public)

This can't be true. No board member would allow this to happen. I also think it is illegal.

I would not be surprised if Nutting has spent some revenue sharing money at Seven Springs a resort outside of Pittsburgh. A local tv station did a segment last week on the updates the resort has done prior to the skiing season. When I saw the segment I wondered if some MLB money went into the updates.

I doubt it. I'm not in the business side of things but I bet it's way more likely that the Ski industry makes money hand over fist compared to baseball.
