In the Cole trade the Pirates got three likely rosters players for the start of 2018, plus a minor league option that might make it to the majors. That sounds like they got basically a year's draft class in exchange for Cole.

I guess but it seems like they kind of traded a dollar for four quarters.

The Pirates only chance to win is to build from within. The farm system is not as good as it was 3 or 4 years ago. For the team to be successful the farm system has to be a top 5 system year in and year out. They can slide out for a year but need to get right back in order to keep a pipeline of players.

NH has talked a good game about process but the results show that he has failed to meet his own goals.

This deal is like a David Littlefield deal and the drive for 75. Looks like we could be back to those days to me, maybe some inflation so it is drive for 78.

Granted they may be on the major league roster in 2018/19. The Pirates roster. But I don’t expect this to add up to even a weak MLB DRAFT much less fulfill the idea behind 3-4 major leaguers.

There is no way to salvage this lost “asset” unless we get shocked. And I say this liking Moran.

In five years from now, you may be right.  But very unfair to say that at this point.

Fair enough, my label us really on Neal. Cole was a good to very good player for us at times. I don’t mean he’s a failure. I mean we’ve turned the 1-1 slot into 3 dime a dozen players and one 3rd base that we REALLY need to live up to his potential. A lot of people don’t believe in Moran now. If he misses.... how do you ever build this team?
