yep, and that rule was tailor made for the Pirates but they continued to play with a man short rather than using it. Don't really understand why.
I agree, no reason to let a guy sit a while on the bench to get better when you could do this. I do wonder if at some point the teams will start calling "shenanigans" on the Dodgers though.

I assumed there had to be some injury documented. Do trainers or team doctors get heat from the league? That player is still out for 10 days. It isn't like they get healthy in two games they can be active.

They're doing it quite a lot with their SP, skipping one start.

I have come to the conclusion that managers are pretty much the same game in and game out. They use the same strategies as everyone else. There are only a few that think outside the box.
Hurdle does bring that respect and leadership to the team. That was something I noticed that changed after watching Lamont, McClendon, Tracy, and Russell.
I want some of the strategies and philosophies to be changed. Hurdle is a good man to get messages across to the players.
Was it Hurdle or the veteran presence of AJ and Martin? I'm not so sure anymore. I don't see this team hustling much for Hurdle these days.

Searage was asked about this a couple of weeks ago and he basically said the Dodgers could do it because they had more money. He didn't elaborate.

Wow, that gives the sense the budget is really, really tight.

What is this implying?
Does this mean because major league players get paid more than minors and their salary will get adjusted as they get called up and sent down?
If so, makes sense. The Dodgers can afford to add that extra payroll throughout the season. I just wonder how much of a difference it actually makes?

It can be a combination. Hurdle is the man in charge and then there are players who are leaders too. Hurdle leads the team leaders too.
Hurdle has that story. All the talent in the world, was hyped, thought he was the best didn't have to work for anything, spent his money, once he struggled he took on the alcohol. Burnett was a good leader because he lived it the right way. Two different people with the same start, projections, hype that took two different paths.

I don't know that the hustling is any better or any worse than it ever was for us (or any other team really). When a team is losing the bad things stick out, and when it's winning our brains tend to gloss those sorts of things over. "Chemistry" is probably the same way. By all accounts the late 80s/early 90s Pirates were a bunch of [jerks] who couldn't stand each other.

I'm not surprised. TBMTIB is not going to admit they have a mgr that needs to be replaced or that a problem with the team even exists. They'll say it was just one of those years with unexpected losses of Kang and Marte. Looking forward to another quiet off season.
JMO, Hurdle is the least out our problems. We have two bigger issues - both ahead of him in the food chain. However, those two won't be going anywhere either as I suspect an extension happens with our GM.
We won't make a significant change in the offseason. Look at our offseason this year - Hudson and Gosselin. I expect similar to that, sadly.
Hurdle is a problem but not the biggest one. That, of course, is Nutting. But Hurdle's bad managing makes a bad team even worse. IMHO, Hurdle's managing this season has been terrible. But as I've said in previous years, he's generally an average, run-of-the-year MLB mgr. With luck, he can improve and once again achieve mediocrity. But a financially challenged team that will never compete with other teams for talent needs a manager much better than average.
I'm not saying Hurdle isn't flawed. He certainly is. However, I just think we have two more flawed people higher up.
