Over Achievers Under Achievers - Teams
The underachieving teams for the year are:
Pirates 13-18
Twins 12-19
Rockies 12-20
Tigers 9-24
There are only 3 teams in all of baseball with a worse record than our Bucs. The idea of this thread is to slice and dice the season into small enough parts that we can find 1 chunk of the season where our BUcs won a couple of games. I wonder h ow long Wildwood Dave would have lasted as a basketball coach if his teams ended up 5-15 and he focused on the two week stretch where he won 4 games?

So you expected the Pirates to be better than 13-18 after 31 games?

_______
If we set the bar low enough even Nutting will be able to step over it.

You've got this backwards, don't you? You had them winning something like 45 games all year, a .277 winning percentage. So far, the Bucs have played at a .420 clip. Looks like they've overachieved according to the math. But don't let facts get in the way.

I thought they set the bar somewhere around being consistently competitive for championships. 13 & 18 seems far from that, unless they get hot fast.

Underachiever definition: one that fails to attain a predicted level of achievement or does not do as well as expected.
Overachiever definition: to perform better or achieve more than expected, especially by others.

They are what they are. I agree that this was done to make folks feel good about the start of the season. Haven't achieved much since. Dave jinxed it.

Bit off topic but kudos to the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Next life I'm a Cardinal fan. Steelers and Penguins do a small market city proud but to be a fan of the Cards you have had many great baseball seasons to follow. Not sure how many WS's they have but almost every year their fans have a nice summer. It would be like the 70 Pirates for me. 150+ nights of excitement.
I would think their owners don't mind spending a buck or two and probably have decent attendance figures at season end.

Glad you defined them- might help Green Weenie to know the difference
