All our bad habits on display today. 1) J Hay tries to field a hard grounder off to the side rather than get it front of it to allow another man on base. No error scored but it should have been just on poor approach. 2) Jaso hits a hard grounder over 1B and he just stands in the box and watches it. The hit did plate 2 runs so I guess I should not complain too much.

4 walks, 2 errors, a wild pitch and it's only the 5th inning.

Votto might just cost Taillon a win today. In 3 plate appearances he worked him for 32 pitches and 3 walks. Jamo leaves up 3-1 in the 5th with 107 total pitches.

I am not watching the game, but throwing over 100 pitches through 4 innings is not a good sign, particularly for a pitcher who was very efficient earlier in the season.
Pirates need to give Tallion some down time to regroup. There is not reason to push him this late in a season that is essentially over. Tell Tallion that he is a key part of the team's future, and then give his next start or two to Brault, Glasnow, Kingham, or Holmes.

They might want to consider intentionally walking Votto in the future. All those pitches early on have to take it out of a batter.

Except for the bullpen (surprise), the Pirates played an all-around very poor game today.
Fortunately, they were playing the Reds.
Losing 9 of the first 11 to the Reds is just inexcusable.

I KNOW THIS IS NOT REALISTIC AND IT'S ALMOST LAUGHABLE, BUT ...
If the Pirates sweep the Cubs this week, they'll be just 4 games out of 1st place on Aug. 30.

Oh no, I guess this means that I need to keep the enthusiasm levels high.
Perhaps the Pirates will be adding talent before the 31st deadline. I think Alex Presley, Robbie Grossman, Matt Joyce, Jose Bautista and other former Pirates may be available as outfield options.

The Bucs are 5-1 at Wrigley this season so far so you never know what can happen. The Pirates at this point need nothing short of a miracle to realistically stay in this division race.
