Will someone pick up Polanco?
I believe an American League team which has a chance for the playoffs will pick him up to DH. Any team which picks him up is only going to pay the minimum salary because the Pirates assume the bulk of his salary. For a playoff bound team they will need to get him on the roster by Wednesday September first.

I'll say no. Take the Yankees and Red Sox, because they're in the WCG if it was played today. I see three teams with a chance to take one or both out. Then, the three current division leaders. That's eight teams total.
Of them, how many need a Polanco? Not a high average hitter, and not a top power hitter.
If any, I'd say the A's just because Marte's there.
I'm not kicking a guy when he's down. It's a shame that things haven't worked out. I could see a minor league deal, but if I was in a playoff run, I wouldn't do it.

I'd give my left nut to see it happen.

I wouldn’t offer that. Remember in 1969 Donn Clendenon who was not the most popular of Pirates while in Pittsburgh, was the MVP of the World Series for the Mets.

And more recently a former pirate who wasn't very good for us - Steve Pierce? - had a pretty good run in the postseason.

I said yes as well. I think a playoff team might pick him up to use mostly as a pinch runner in September. That's one thing he's done well this year. I'm not sure they'll keep him around for the playoffs though.
