As a Pirates fan, how could you watch the end of that Indians game tonight and not be a bit jealous, envious of the Cleveland fans.
That stadium was ELECTRIC. You can tell the city is about to implode from excitement. Honestly it felt like a postseason game 7.
Pittsburgh and Cleveland. The cities and market sizes are similar, in that neither city is a "tier one" market. Stadiums are similar. You would think that available resources are somewhat similar.
But one team is TRYING to win. They spend $$$. They go out and get Andrew Miller. They sign Jay Bruce. They are all about WINNING.
The other franchise is focused on cutting corners, saving $$$ and spending as little $$$ as possible so it can make $$$. It is all about THE BOTTOM LINE.
Two different philosophies.
And right now the two franchises are 180 degrees apart.
And the team that is willing to SPEND MONEY is MAKING MONEY head over heels right now.

I guess Nutting feels like he's already making money so why take the risk of spending money to make money?

Cleveland, Brewers, Royals - they're our greatest hope.
1) remind Nutting that good baseball has a value too.
2) shame him. Don't know if he's capable of shame, but if he is watching other owners humiliate him should do it.
Oh, and Neal - we know you're reading this - check out the relative fan support! (And take your lies and digs at Pirate fans and move on down the road).

They might have 26 games of not losing, but that isn't a 26 game win streak. The tie game was against the Pirates. Second game of a double-header so maybe it was a curfew issue. But I agree that it is absurd to consider a 26 game winning streak when the team won 26 of 27 with a tie. They won 12. Then had a complete game tie. It was an official game and the stats counted. Then they won 14. They played 155 games. Outfielder George Burns was credited with playing all 155 games. So the tie counted. They did not win 26 consecutive games. They had a 27 consecutive non-losing streak, going 26-0-1. But at no time did they win 26 in a row.

I can see it via the MLB Extra Innings package. They are winning 3-1 in the 3rd.

I just want to clarify the Giants streak. It's a legit 26 and it should be (and is) recognized as such.
* After 12 straight wins, the Giants and the Pirates played a game that was 1-1 at the end of 8 when rained moved in. There were no lights so the game was called. They did not suspend and resume games back then, they just started over.
* THERE WAS NO TIE. It was never declared a tie or recorded as a tie. If you are reading that the Giants tied a game during the streak, that is incorrect.
* Instead of a tie, the next day the two teams played their regularly scheduled game, and then they played a 2nd game to replay the rain game from the day before. The Giants won the regular game, and the replay game.
* The Giants CLEARLY won 26 straight, with one rain-shortened game mixed in that was never declared a tie.

It's hard to wrap my brain around 22 in a role. Just sweeping one series is amazingly difficult.

But here's the inconsistency in that:
* The game that ended 1-1 on 9/18/16 was an official game. It was played and it counted. It is recorded as the 136th game of the season. There was no winner or loser. The 135th game of the Giants' season was their 12th straight win. The 136th game of the Giant's season was not their 13th straight win.
* The extra game played and won on 9/19/16 was an additional game. It was recorded as the 137th game of the season. It was not a makeup of a game not played due to a rain out. It was an extra game played because the previous game had no winner or loser.
* Max Carey had 3 hits in the game that had no winner or loser. The final score of that game is officially recorded as 1-1. Those remain 3 of the 158 hits he had that season.
* The Giants' Brad Kauff hit his 6th HR of the season in the game that had no winner or loser. The final score of that game is officially recorded as 1-1. It remains 1 of the 9 HRs he hit that year.
* One Giants' player played in every game that season. He is credited with playing in 155 games. Every Giant and every Pirate who appeared in that game is credited with a game played in a game that ended with a final score of 1-1.
* The game is recorded in Baseball Almanac and Baseball reference and probably any other source containing a history of game outcomes as a tie because the game counted and ended 1-1.

* The Giants officially played 28 games between 9/7/16 and 9/30/16. They won 26 of them. They lost their first game after 27 games without a loss in the second game of a DH on 9/30. After the first 12 wins, they played an official game that ended 1-1. We'll never know if they would have won that game if it had not ended 1-1 due to rain. But the game officially counted as their 136th game of the season and one in which they did not win. Then they won 14 more.
* The Giant's did not CLEARLY win 26 straight. They CLEARLY won 12 and then 14 separated by an official game that ended with a score of 1-1 (but for some reason shouldn't be called a tie?).
