Just wondering if there would be a trade partner out there for him. Getting more expensive and more injury prone. That being said is Diaz ready for being the starting position? Would have to find a backup or free agent catcher. Any thoughts!

Keep Cervelli.

When healthy, he is pretty good in my opinion. I am not sure where his power went, but he is still a decent bat. He isn't a great thrower, but he is a good defensive catcher when it comes to blocking pitches. That is probably why he gets hurt so much. Diaz is a fine back up.

If they are to do anything at all this winter, they will need budget room. Cervelli is one of the three highest paid players. If they keep him (and I'm guessing they will - I'm looking for him to have a good season this year, and am assuming Diaz will play quite a bit for a backup) then Cutch and Harrison are the next two. Cutch I think they trade for other reasons. Harrison, I think, is fifty-fifty to go.

It's doubtful there's a trade partner for an expensive injury prone catcher.

Cervelli will be the tied for sixth highest paid Catcher in 2018 ($10.5 million). Of course, a free agent could pass him, not sure who is out there.

I like Cervelli, but he has to stay healthy. I do think he gets nicked up more than any other catcher and I don't know why. It just seems foul tips find his body more than others. It isn't like he is more exposed than others, in my opinion.

P.S.

Martin, who many here wanted to resign, will make $9.5 million more than Cervelli in 2018.

Need to start looking for another catcher surely this will be his last year as a Pirate, I was impressed with Stallings late season performance he could be the future.
