What Prospect could we get to play 3rd
I am not up on my minor league talent outside of the Pirates, but are there players that can be hand to man 3rd base for our beloved Buccos. While I like Freese and J-Hay...I doubt if the Bucs will go that route in 2018.
Thoughts on young talent that could be acquired???

I might almost be easier to acquire someone to play 2nd.

I think you can present a strong case that the Pirates should address the position in free agency. The two top targets would be Moustakas and Frazier. I did a projected 2018 payroll the other day.
McCutchen 14,500,000
Marte 7,500,000
Harrison 10,000,000
Polanco 3,500,000
Freese 4,250,000
Frazier 575,000
Mercer 7,500,000
Bell 600,000
Cervelli 10,500,000
Diaz 600,000
4OF
INF
3B
Cole 6,500,000
Taillon 600,000
Nova 8,500,000
Glasnow 600,000
Kuhl 600,000
Williams 600,000
Rivero 4,000,000
LeBlanc 1,250,000
Schugel 600,000
Hudson 5,500,000
RP
RP (org guy) 550,000
Total 88,825,000
If you look at organization depth, some of the larger current salaries can be replaced with internal options beyond 2018 (Meadows for McCutchen, Keller/Glasnow for Cole, Kramer, Newman, Moroff for Harrison & Mercer). So raises for guys like Marte/Polanco/Taillon/Rivero and Bell will mostly be mitigated by current large salaries coming off of the books.
But, this is all contingent on the team being willing to move payroll more into the $120M range as opposed to the $100M range. The average payroll this year was $150M, based on the forbes revenue projections, with revenues in the $230M range, they should be in the 120-130M payroll range. especially with the miniscule D/E ratios.
I am generally risk averse when it comes to adding big FA deals, but when you have the payroll flexibility and a major hole to fill, there's no excuse. But, obviously if Kang is coming back, you just play him.

I doubt if we see Kang again. I think the legal powers in Korea are black balling Kang. I would be surprised to see him play ever again Bucs uniform.

I wouldn't say it's the fault of legal officials in Korea that Kang cannot get immigration approval. Attorneys in this area warn foreign students with any criminal violations not to go home unless they are willing to take the chance getting immigration approval getting back. The problem for those students is US immigration policy -- people with criminal violations cannot gain entry. It's entirely possible the problem is a US one and not a Korean one.

I was understanding that is was US policy that was keeping him out?

I don't know about the Korean legal system, but I think his punishment is too light. If he had racked up three DUIs anywhere in the US, he would have served jail time. And rightfully so in my opinion.
And I have no problem with US immigration authorities keeping out someone who has a history of drinking and driving.

Osuna seems to have a good bad bat [edit], which isn't easy with the limited PT he gets. He's taken some practice at 3B. I would like to see him get some time at 3B so that they can get an idea whether he can handle the position next year if needed.
The Pirates are way too conservative in this area. I recall when they realized Pedro had to be taken off 3B but said they wanted to give him the entire off season to prepare for 1B. Meanwhile, I watched Buck Showalter move Craig Reynolds from 3B in 2012 to 1B in mid season with no preparation. Reynolds struggled at 3B but immediately thrived at 1B. In 2015, Showalter put Steve Pearce at 2B with no prior experience just to get his bat in the lineup. This year he started 2Bman Schoop at SS. The point is if a mgr thinks a player might be able to handle a position, it's ok to try him there without a year to prepare. Osuna has been practicing at 3B. Give him a try.

I don't like the idea of acquiring a 2bman because JHay's glove and bat both play best there. Go get a 3rd baseman. Trade or FA (I know, I laughed at the last one too)
Kang's salary is so minimal that there's no point to planning on him being back. it's not going to hamstring any team, even our cheap team if he and his few million dollars shows up.
If he's able to join the team, that's a great bench piece/ injury insurance. Heck, we might end up with a very nice looking sunday lineup with Kang and Freese on the bench.
