7/23 game

I'm not even mad at them today. Colorado is such a bad place to play. I'm glad they got one early.

They need to go 4-2 next week to hold serve.

I'm with Tintin. I was fearing a sweep in Denver, and we got the first one and then have been outclassed the last two games. It feels fortunate to get 1 of 3.

The Pirates were 3 games out on Friday morning in Denver. Meanwhile the Brewers were in Philly. If you had told me the Pirates would leave town on Sunday night still 3 games out I would have signed up for it immediately. I was concerned they would be 5 or 6 games out tonight.

Now, they have survived Denver and they need to take care of business in SF and SD. They need 4-2 but 3-3 is mandatory. Then get home and start piling up wins.

Yeah, I'm overall okay that we survived. Watching these games convinced me they play a game in Denver that only resembles baseball.

This still wasn't good. They need to win the series and they didn't. Colorado is a good team. Them hosting the Wild Card Game would be scary for their opponent.

They have to make up this series In the next six games.

This Giants series won't be a walk in the park for the Pirates either. The Giants swept the Bucs a few weeks ago here at home and I don't think they are as bad of a team as their record might indicate. The Pirates usually play pretty well in San Fran so they need to do it again these next 3 games. Can't afford to lose 2 out of 3 in this series as well.

It was great to win 12 of 14 just to get 1 game over .500. Then 2 losses and they're right back under .500. It shows how much additional winning it's going to take to get significantly over .500. That's a lot to ask. Despite that spurt I don't see this team ending up much over .500 if even that. I hope I'm wrong.

Yah, I think they're basically .500 team.  Played considerably below their level for a while, then overachieved.

That's why I hope they don't go crazy with the trades, and why it'll test my patience dealing with people who yell that we didn't get the biggest brightest trades because Nutting is Cheap and Doesn't Want To Win™.  While that may or may not be the case; I could go get a sweet new paint job and cool running lights and a bitchin' stereo for my 2010 Ford Focus, but it'll still be a 2010 Ford Focus.

I am looking at the schedule. That is why I feel they can make a run. Many divisional games left. Their next 14 games aren't against any good teams record wise.

Note that the Cubs are now first in the Central and are also playing very well, and have a reasonable likelihood of continuing that play. Plus, they are quite a ways back in the wild card race. They really needed two wins or a sweep at Colorado to have any sort of shot there. .500 is probably a realistic assessment.

The Cubs don't have an easy stretch coming up. They also play the Cardinals and Brewers numerous times still.
