Bucs Make Waiver Claim
The Bucs have claimed catcher Michael Pérez off waivers from a Tampa. I would think both Murphy and Maile will be designated very soon. Looking at his stats, he is not a huge hitter, but his defense appears very good. With Stallings we have a righty and lefty hitter which is a nice combination.

Here's some information on Perez from when Tampa acquired him:

some info about him prior to the 2020 season:

Looks like the Rays are going back to the drawing board. They declined Zunino's option, which was only 4.5 million.

Both articles make reference of Perez fine defensive skills. It appears we now have a couple of good defensive catchers.

In 2008 Tampa had catcher injuries and the Pirates flipped a minor league catcher named Michel Hernandez to them on August 31. The injuries persisted, and Hernandez ended up on the Rays' (losing) World Series roster. It would be cool if this was the same guy, but the names are different so it's probably not.

Stallings hit 248 this shortened season which was above average for this years club.

Just another guy who can't hit MLB pitching and we wonder why we lose.
