Nova to Start Today vs Cubs

Post by dmetz »

Here's NH on why there wasn't a rehab start with Nova:

“We always feel better if a player goes down and has a rehabilitation assignment. The challenge is, it’s not unilateral, and the player has to be on board; has to be supportive. While we worked through the process with nova, we felt the work he’s been able to do with sim games and in the bullpen made us ok with coming back and going right back into the rotation.”

the NH Translator machine:::::-Nova was never really injured other than inflamation of his ERA, and wouldn't go down to the minors for a rehab even though we wanted him to do so, to delay making the decision to send our best starting pitcher back to Indy.-

ON KINGHAM'S DEMOTION:

"With Nick, he continues to do what he can do. He’s thrown the ball well in his six starts, with an ERA just south of 4 in those starts. Yesterday, the one non-play leads to the two runs. The Cubs did a good job of executing. As we look at Trevor Williams, the last few starts have not gone how he has anticipated but he has performed well. Kuhl has an ERA south of 4...Ivan Nova, if you eliminate the starts affecting by his finger, has been very good and obviously Jameson Taillon has been very good aside from a few rough starts. We have some guys who are working through some challenges...Nick will continue to get his time, but at this time we felt that going with the five starters we kept was the right move, as well as keeping Nick on schedule.”

What a bunch of bullspit.    Nova pitched 8 scoreless innings vs the Tigers on April 26th, since then he's given up:

-5 ER in 4.2 innings

-5 ER in 2 innings

-4 ER in 5.2 innings

-2 ER in 6 innings ( I guess the finger was healed eh?)

-4 ER in 5.1

So he must have hurt his finger vs the tigers?   If you just take out the entire month of May, he's pitched really well.   May is overrated anyway

Musgrove was the one who lost his start. When is he scheduled to pitch again?

6-1 and all our whipping boys --Nova, Polanco,

and Bell-- have done something good today. Maybe SRod can come in to kick the extra point.

Atonement Day. Felipe even gets a mock save to end the game. Bucs win and Cubs lose ...two great things.

I feel they were a slip away from winning this series. I still don't think the Cubs and Cardinals are as good as season's past. The Pirates can catch them.

When you look back at all the losing over the last 3 weeks, and yes the Pirates have been absolutely pathetic and hopeless, but man it's such a fine line to determine your perception of a team.

I just looked back at this 6-16 stretch. If you just changed 2 results, our perception would be so different.

* If the Pirates had not lost 3 straight at home to the Padres, which is inexcusable, and just won 1 of the 3.

* And if the Pirates (Vasquez) had not choked away the 8-5 lead in the 9th in STL.

Just change those 2 results only ... and the Pirates are 34-31, 5 games out of 1st place and 3.5 out of the wild card and we are all feeling a bit different about this team.

So, yes, they have been TERRIBLE the last 3 weeks, but they have not been swept and they are barely hanging on somehow. Those two extra wins would have made a huge difference.

If I set the over-under for Pirates' runs in tomorrow night's game vs. Patrick Corbin at 0.5 runs, how would you bet?

If I were in Vegas I'd take the under.

This next game has 2-hit shutout written all over it.
