I would do that move. Frazier is blocked. The Yankees could use a 3B/2B. This would make moving McCutchen a little easier.
As it stands right now, there is no reason to keep Cutch. Moving him is actually an easy decision.
I don't think moving Cole has any significance regarding Cutch. While I don't think this team is competitive, it wasn't competitive the day before the Cole trade either. They didn't just trade a star pitcher with a 19-8 record and a 2.60 ERA. That was 3 seasons ago. They just traded a pitcher who in the last 2 seasons was 19-22 with a 4.12 ERA and more hits than innings and gave up the 2nd most HRs (31) in the NL last year. Last year there was little difference between Cole, Nova, Williams, Kuhl and Taillon. They were all just fair at best so removing any one of them--Cole included--doesn't signal any type of collapse. Cutch will probably be traded--maybe at the deadline--because of his pending free agency. Not because trading one of 2017's mediocre starters signals a total rebuild.
I agree with much of this. However, at this juncture, this is a rebuild. Dog will disagree. There is no point in keeping him. The rotation isn't good at all. We haven't spent any money looking for solutions. This is all about getting rid of $$$ and collecting prospects/suspects and controllable years. The only thing with Cutch is does holding onto him until the TDL bring you a better return? The Cole return is underwhelming. What does one year of Cutch bring you now? In order to maybe get a better return on him now is to retain some salary, which I don't see happening with this crew. Maybe its sending Keller with Cutch for the next Drew Hutchinson (I kid, but we have seen that).
Getting back to Harrison ... I have no clue what his actual worth is. We can say XXX and YYY, but ... does he get Clint Frazier? I doubt the Yanks would offer him. Toronto is no longer in the Harrison sweepstakes as it has acquired to middle infielders in the offseason. Both NY teams ..
I wonder if the component with a potential Mets deal is Steven Matz.
Harrison and the Yankees?
