Glasnow service time ?

Post by PMike »

What is Glasnow's official service time at this point? There have been a number of posters who have suggested that he will stay down because of Super 2. It was my understanding he passed that. He came up in early July and was on the MLB roster for the rest of the year, right? He got hurt and did a minor league rehab stint, but was on the big league roster the whole time...I thought.

Can anyone offer an accurate answer to this? And, as my kids' math homework always says, please show your work.

Sorry, I don't have an answer to your question. But I thought I'd throw a Glasnow article in here that is at least tangentially related to your question. I hope he does have the changeup figured out but i'll wait and see . . .

I saw the calculations in another article. If he came up late July the Pirates would get an extra year (at super two) and in August for the year without super two. Either way, that doesn't seem likely if he's pitching at all well.

The article indicates Glasnow will likely begin the season at Indy to work on his pitches.

I honestly don't think they're worried about Super 2 with Glasnow at this point. IDK exactly how much service time he has, but I'm sure it's enough to push his Super 2 date well into July. I don't think they'll hold him down that long. I've heard more than a few people suggest he'll start the year in the rotation. I don't know about that, but he certainly has the most upside of any vying for the last rotation spot. If what we're reading today about his change-up, that could be a game changer. If he has developed a third pitch to go with his fastball and curve, look out. It honestly wouldn't surprise me at all to see him start the year in the rotation, or maybe come up in May, giving him a few starts in AAA to refine the feel on his new change.

I have seen some "expert" sites have Glasnow projected in the rotation most of the year too. I haven't heard the Pirates say anything on the subject.

Looking back on what has happened in the past, I don't see him starting in the rotation. With guys like Kuhl, Hutchison, and Kingham in the mix I would be surprised if he starts the season in the rotation.

I would love to see him have a great Spring Training. His size and upside is exciting.

So if we keep him in Indy until 2nd week of June while he works on things, we get an extra year of control. Right?

If they need him before June , I would hope that they call him up ,and not be concerned with Super 2 status. If he pitches lights out in spring training they better bring him north, and give him a spot in the rotation.
