Not many were happy with the bench at the beginning of the season. The loss of Rodriguez and Joyce was discussed a lot.

I wanted Rodriguez back, but figured he went to play for Atlanta so he could start. Rumor is that the Pirates offered him less money to what the Braves offered.

I didn't want Joyce back. He had a great first half last year, but really struggled in the later months.

What do you think about the bench now? Jaso and Osuna have been the two big bench guys and are turning it on. Their defense is still bad, but they sure got better. Of course, they also started hitting so their defense isn't mentioned much.

Joyce is batting .230 with 10 HR, 31 RBI .759 OPS in 213 at bats.

Jaso is batting .240 with 5 HR, 19 RBI .752 OPS in 150 at bats.

Osuna is batting .250 with 5 HR, 18 RBI .773 OPS in 112 at bats.

I like Osuna a lot from seeing him in AA

Terrific bat speed. I think he'd be the starting 1B on Yankees and is probably better than Greg Bird will be (if Bird is healthy enough to play). Osuna would probably be the starting 1B on the Mets too...

I feel the bench is coming together.

Osuna and Jaso are hitting now. Frazier will be on bench duty I assume when Marte comes back.

I do like Moroff. I know he isn't hitting, but he has hit in the minors. He is a good fielder too. I prefer him over Gosselin, Gift and Hanson.

Diaz has to stay if Cervelli comes back. Stewart is a nice guy, but he is a huge weakness.

I don't know--kinda think Stewart is exactly the kind of guy you're looking for in a backup catcher. Some might yell but I think the plan should maybe be to move Cervelli.

I don't know how much you would get for a catcher with concussion issues. And at twenty million over the next two years plus what's due the rest of this season, you would probably have to kick in some money.

Probably. But Diaz seems pretty ready. Better or worse than Cervelli?
