Dave Littlefield GM for about 1215 games
Neal Huntington about 2106 games
Cherington? Less than 162
Small sample size?
There's no doubt, last season was a disaster. This year is only slightly better, but there was never going to be a quick fix for this team.

FWIW- maybe nothing:
We probably all remember that Littlefield never had a winning club.
It took Huntington six full seasons to build one and to make post-season play. The two years before that, the team had improved records from the previous years. I think that most of us would agree that his first three seasons were "less encouraging."
However, Ben Cherington is not the OJT GM that Huntington was when he got the Pirates job. How that affects a fans expectations of Cherington is purely individualistic, of course.
Just because two other guys sxcked, I'm not sure that it gives a pass for a third guy to sxc, too. But, some folks might say so.

Some will apologize and apologize for the GM who is here now. As soon as he is fired then the Apologists will proclaim, he sxc.

From the entertainment standpoint of it along with the longevity and the twists and turns throughout the extended time, this was without a doubt a top 5 thread on the PMB.
Thanks for reincarnating it! If it can last at least through BC's tenure (which I hope is as long as NH's because it will just be better...just because) this will just be too fun.
This thread, the SOG/GOG, the offseason thread (this year's was already a classic), the ST thread (especially when Glassers was reporting live from Bradenton), and the GDT's from 2012-2016, most memorable being the 2013 WC game thread (I must have reread that thread 100 times).
Just my opinion of course.

Of course, for all who are new to this, Shedman claimed all along that DL was the best GM, and he also had Cam Bonifay in the grouping.
Even after NH had overtaken DL in winning pct., ended the drought, won 3 playoff games and lost three others, Shedman still refused to accept NH as superior.
He's already put his initials in the cement, the tree, and stamped his name on declaring BC a complete moron, unqualified, and incompetent.
For the rest of us, hoping BC turns it around will make the man who loves to use the word "apologists" twist in the wind with his own apologist spin!!!
What a country!!

Of course, Littlefield was superior.....just on the basis that he didn't make that Archer trade. @@@@@ Nothing else matters, right?

Don't forget, NH won with DL's drafted players McCutchen and Walker, and Marte came from Rene Gayo. Though I disagree, you can't but at least tip the cap DL's direction on two major components of NH's best teams.
