And if he can't help, maybe they can send for Abraham Nunez. I'm sure Lloyd McLendon remembers how to call on him. He only did it every frickin' night.
Until I saw Shelton, McClendon was the worst manager I ever saw. Nunez was a good fielder and weak hitter. But he was McClendon's favorite PHer (at which he was horrible) and usually out of the game after that so that he wasn't available for late inning defense.
I go back and forth between McClendon and John Russell as being the worst. On most nights I wasn't sure if Russell even had a pulse. McClendon was a screw-up because he made decisions. Russell was bad because he didn't do anything.
I totally agree. Russell did nothing. McClendon did everything--wrong! I used to think that if McClendon just slept thru the games, they'd be better off. So I was pleased that that's all Russell did. I wish Shelton would sleep thru the games. I'm sure they'd win 4 or 5 more per year.

Our’s sure has been one messed-up organization for the past 30-some years.

One of the more perplexing phenomena of the 20-year streak.

I would happily take any of this century's managers over Jim Tracy.

He was a real disappointment. After managing in the Dodgers organization for several years, I thought he’d elevate the way the Pirates played the game. I think when he got here, and saw how much different the Pirates organization was from LA, he just gave up and started counting his days until he was gone. Not that I’m excusing it. Quitting on your team is the worst sin in sports. He’s despicable for having done it.

boy are the D-Backs and Reds going to be sorry that they paid 5 million for Randall Grichuk and Austin Hays and the Bucs only spent 1.3 on Adam Frazier.

of course its possible the Bucs did make offers to those players and they said, We'll play anywhere else for 5 million, it will cost you $7 million.

I'm surprised as they have already signed Dylan Carlson and Tyler O'Neill this off season and have Cowser and Mullins back who were really solid last year. They've blocked Heston Kjerstad who got his feet wet last year and is a Top 100 prospect. Love to trade some of our young pitching for him!

Russell was a zombie. At least McClendon had some fire.
As far as Grichuk; we couldn’t even afford more than $2M?
Cheap isn’t strong enough of a word to describe this f…ing ownership

It is hard for me to understand why the Pirates couldn’t pay for either Hayes, Laueano, or Grichuk. Five million dollars in baseball money is pocket change. Please don’t sign a player like Tommy Pham. Since the Pirates are a cheap organization let’s try, Cook, Yorke, Suwinski and Palacios as the right field option, and see if it works. Don’t forget we can also try .202 Adam Frazier.

Is it just me, but is there more negativity towards Pirates Ownership now than ever before? Yes there are billboards, and shirts telling Nutting to sell, but there is more written negativity. It has been a dreadful offseason. I for one is not that excited that ST begins next week.
