Lefty Grove won 31 games in 1931, on only 30 starts. He went 27-3 as a starter, relieved 11 times and went 4-1.

In 1938, 23-year-old Reds lefty Johnny Vander Meer pitched a 10-inning CG on May 27, beating the Cardinals 2-1.
His next start on June 1 was a 9-inning CG win over the Dodgers, 4-1.
In his next start on June he had another CG, beating the Giants 4-1.
His next game on June 11 was a no-hitter vs the Braves, 3-0.
On June 15, he struggled with 8 walks but pitched his 2nd consecutive no-hitter, beating the Dodgers 3-0.
His next game was a CG win over the Braves 14-1.

In that 6-game span, Vander Meer went 6-0 with 6 CGs, 2 no-hitters, a 21-hitless innings streak, 55 IP, 17 hit, 4 runs, 24 BBs, 35 Ks, 0.65 ERA and .096 BA against.

Prior to those 6 games he was 2-2 with an ERA of 3.86.
After those 6 games, he was 7-8 with an ERA of 3.93.
