We'll do it like the teams do with the Stanley Cup, every guy gets the trophy for a party. We'll go by age, I think that would only be fair. Doc should be going first I imagine, we'll notify him the same way he got his mail as a young man, by Pony Express.Bobster wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 2:58 pmHow are we going to split up the Manager Of The Year trophy?Surgnbuck wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 12:56 amMaybe we can petition to all manage the Pirates for one day this season!Bobster wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 11:38 pm I can dream about Shelton being replaced, but in 1960 the Phillies lost their opening day game after which manager Eddie Sawyer resigned. That would match the number of different line-ups Shelton will put together.Surgnbuck wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 12:56 amMaybe we can petition to all manage the Pirates for one day this season!Bobster wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 11:38 pm I can dream about Shelton being replaced, but in 1960 the Phillies lost their opening day game after which manager Eddie Sawyer resigned. Don't be ridiculous. Ponies hadn't been invented yet.

Unfortunately, it is Jan.6th 2025 and he is still here
Re: Predict Shelton's firing date thread
I think this is the make or break year for DS and GMBC. If they get off to a slow start, DS will be gone. If the season doesn't end in the playoffs, I think there will be an entire house cleaning once again, starting with the president.Wildwoodcoach wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 9:51 pm Unfortunately, it is Jan.6th 2025 and he is still here
I can almost feel the reset button being pushed.
Re: Predict Shelton's firing date thread
They just have to try to stay under the radar and not do anything stupid/costly (e.g. Morris/Archer trades).

Re: Predict Shelton's firing date thread
I think Shelton is on the hot seat more so than Ben Cherington. If they start off slow I could see the Pirates moving on from Shelton and putting Don Kelly in charge. When you fire the GM there are more pieces of the Operations Staff which may be replaced because they were hired by the now fired GM. I think if they fire Cherington we are going to begin another rebuild. My guess is he has a couple more years to turn the franchise into a winner.
Re: Predict Shelton's firing date thread
Interesting how the Cherington quote in the last paragraph doesn’t include signing free agents. Finally they’re admitting that spending on a quality free agent isn’t included in the plan. Now everyone can just relax in the offseasons ahead instead of getting all anxious waiting for that big signing, and then getting upset when each free agent becomes property of another team. I feel much better now.
Re: Predict Shelton's firing date thread
a problem for the Pirates is that even less than big time free agents get paid more than the Pirates want to pay. Really a player like Skenes (especially if he goes year by year) will get more than the Pirates want to pay by his second arbitration year.Doc wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 11:49 pmInteresting how the Cherington quote in the last paragraph doesn’t include signing free agents.
