They definitely overpaid for Horwitz.

Certainly nothing against the player, but what did they use as their evaluation? This continues to confound me when it comes to their draft selections (Skenes notwithstanding) who never quite pan out they other teams players do. I still believe that their development programs in the minors are sorely lacking. But their mindset of who to acquire is always baffling as well. Yes, Horwitz has years of control in the plus column, but for 3 pitchers who have as much or more? And yet Bellinger goes for a 30 year old fringe reliever. They could have offered those 3 to the Cubs for Bellinger and I'd guess the Cubs would have paid at least half of what salary was still owed. SMH :x

Of course, nothing personal against the player. I just feel he's less valuable that what they gave up for him. Feels like an overpay just for the sake of looking productive.

Maybe he will turn out great but his advanced stats on Baseball reference don't really indicate that is likely. I would feel better if he was a couple years younger. I think the package the Bucs sent could have brought someone back with a higher ceiling (and maybe a higher salary and less years of control)

I still can't figure out why the Bucs used up an entire service year on Jared Jones last year. I wonder if they expected him to fail and be sent down at some point. Other than Jones when was the last time a rookie started and stayed up all year with the Bucs?

It looks like 1Bman Christian Walker is going to sign with the Astros.

There's a note in this morning's Post Gazette saying the Dodgers are paying a penalty on their salary arrangements of $103MM this year. What a system.

Their penalty is larger than our payroll. Yeah, what a system!

The Yankees are looking at trading for Nolan Arenado and signing Paul Goldschmidt. Goldschmidt isn't the player he used to be but he could be valuable as a platoon and bench player. Imagine, Paul Goldschmidt coming off the Yankees bench in a key, late-inning situation. The Pirates? Can you say Alika Williams?

Goldschmidt is 37. In 3 more years I expect the Pirates to sign him. :D
