Is it just me, but it seems like teams are currently signing more players to minor league contracts this offseason .I know most of these players are fillers for MLB teams minor league teams. It appears MLB teams are moving very slowly to sign many of the better known free agents which are available this offseason. My definition of a better known free agent are those players in the 5 to 12 million dollar range.

In the meantime, there are no names under consideration by the Pirates for an offensive upgrade at any position.

The Phillies are signing Max Kepler who I thought the Pirates might pursue. The contract is for one year at $10 million dollars. One would think the Pirates could afford that salary. I am beginning to feel that this will be another dumpster diving offseason like some on this site have said. I cannot believe the owner has the cojones to not permit the GM and his staff to supplement the roster with players that would be beneficial to this pitching staff. At this point I wonder if Cutch will return. This owner is a JOKE!

As we all know, the Pirates can afford a $10 million salary, and even more. But what player would choose to play for the Pirates when he could go to the always-serious Phillies? Players want the chance to win. They'll not get that with the Pirates.

Is it just going to be used to pay for raises for current players? Also acquiring Spencer Horwitz, do the Bucs think he is really going to be a good hitter? Or were they willing to pay (and possibly overpay) to get someone on a cheap contract? Whatever the reasons the Bucs have not shown for years that they deserve any benefit of the doubt on anything.
