The Bucs have won 6 games this season while scoring only 1 or 2 runs. If the pitching was not so good, those would have been losses and the 51-50 record would be 45-56. With the lack of hitting, I doubt anyone would be surprised if they had been 45-56 at this point.

Reynolds is a late scratch with back spasms.
I can always count on you to back up my musings with the facts. Everyone in baseball knows that the proper bat or two would make this club one of the favorites to reach the playoffs, even the one guy who can make it happen. But he's got his little ball of profit ready to be deposited at the end of the season and he's not wavering.

Reds jumped all over the Braves with 4 in the first. Let's match that!

The Pittsburgh Pirates have Major League pitching. Just a little help could keep us all interested into late September.

Well we won't be matching the Reds.

Just looking at today’s line-up, most of the guys belong on the bench if not in the big leagues at all. McCutchen, Joe, Hayes, Palocios, and Taylor should rarely see the field. The guys backing them up (Suwinski, Triolo, Grandal) are no better. It’s amazing how far the pitching has carried this club.

Beginning last year, Paul Goldschmidt has fallen off the earth. He’s had a really good career but now he’s very ordinary, if that. It’s too bad. He’s been the consummate pro his whole time in the big leagues. One of the good guys in baseball.
