I am a little surprised that none of the 3 top Front Office individuals have spoken to the media since the news was reported that they are taking Reynolds to arbitration. I guess the local Pittsburgh media have asked to speak with Mr. Nutting to discuss several matters as well as the Reynolds situation.. Nothing has been scheduled yet. Travis Williams has not spoken to the media in a very long time. Ben Cherington has been very silent lately. Yesterday when they sent Cruz down, Derek Shelton discussed his demotion with the local media and not BC. To me it is very strange that the FO individuals are keeping their distance. From reading Jason Mackey's Q and A in the Post Gazette on line site, the fan base is very upset with regards to the Reynolds situation. In my opinion by the FO being quiet regarding this matter, it does not help with promoting the team.

I've usually defended ownership with regard to salary matters, but not this time. Over a friggin' $650K they are alienating their best player. That is wrong, wrong, wrong!

I agree, and if they took a poll of how the fan base felt about this, it would show that the Pirates are totally wrong with taking Reynolds , their best player to arbitration for such a small amount when their total team payroll is less than 40 million dollars.

I thought that it was Reynolds who is taking the club to arbitration.  He rejected the offer.  Am I mistaken?

As for the rest, I stopped reading any articles as soon as they were quoted....probably over ten years ago. Why? Because they piss me off every time.

I dont care what they or he say. I care what they do.

Which also means that I care what they don't do.

They could not agree to a figure so under the CBA they head to an arbitration hearing. I am sure you are aware of the arbitration process since you post on this site quite regularly. The player and the Pirates decided to use that procedure .. Bottom line in my opinion, a team does not go to arbitration with their best player over this amount.

I agree with your final sentence.  It's the Pirates.  It's what they do.   Doesn't surprise me in the least.

Remember, this franchise is owned by the man who hired a lawyer (Coonelly) who represented MLB and assisted clubs in arbitration hearings to be the club's president.  Nutting is anti-labor, cut and dry.

Agree with you. I was always holding out hope that things would change under the current FO group. I guess they remain the same.

I thought Travis Williams was going to be a great asset to the Pirates. Nothing possibly could've been worse than Frank Coonelly. But he's been invisible. I have no idea what his duties are. I still think Cherington, as GM, has done great work in the very areas that needed addressed first. The common theme that runs through this administration and the previous one is Bob Nutting.

Truthfully, none of us should be surprised with the Reynolds situation. Nutting's fingerprints are all over it. But, if they're not, he should've stepped in and ordered the team's contract negotiator to pay Reynolds the amount his agent submitted. So, either way, this whole mess begins and ends with Nutting.

That is why I very seldom disparage Cherington. His hands are tied
