The Bucs and Reynolds have agreed to a two year agreement for 13.5 million. Appears from Jason Mackey that some other long term agreements were discussed, but this is where the two sides settled.

Glad to see this worked out early in the season. They can go on from here. Good for all involved.

I agree with you, an arbitration hearing would have strained the relationship between Reynolds, his agent and the Pirates. I have to believe Jason Mackey when he reported late last week that Bob Nutting was not pleased with the Pirates going to arbitration with Reynolds.

I'm sure he wasn't. Not a good look.

I again agree with you. The 650,000 amount which they were going to go to arbitration was peanuts when compared to baseball money. I could not believe that they were going to debate over this amount. Both sides won today, and for me I still have faith in the current FO group headed by Travis Williams and Ben Cherington.

At least they are showing that their two best players are valued by the organization

Interesting that it only buys out 2 of his 4 arb years. (He was a Super 2 so he gets an extra year of arb.) The contract covers 2022-23 but he's still arb eligible 2024-25 and a FA effective 2026.

According to an article by Jason Mackey, the sides discussed different alternatives, but the two year deal was decided. It sounds like the door is at least cracked to discuss an additional contract, or terms down the road. I would guess that would not happen until this offseason. I am glad they at least got this done without going to arbitration.

Great news. They have 2 years to work on a longer deal.

I look at that as a quasi- mutual opt out. Performance, the market, the team can look so much different by then that both sides can reassess things closer to the end. It seems like a conservative approach, and gives incentive for both sides to do well.
