If our 2-6 hitters can improve on their 1-19 performance in game 1, they might have a shot.

I swear, if I hear one more Pirate announcer tell me, "Just wait till August, you'll see Reynold's numbers back to where we're used to" I just might throw something through the screen. I'm done waiting. Maybe we have already seen his career year. Wouldn't be the first guy who looked like a staple for a long time, and became a bust.

Time for Reynolds to start showing up.

I think that says a lot more about the Pirates than it does about van Meter.

If they can't get another catcher there by game time, VanMeter has to kept in reserve in case Knapp gets hurt. Otherwise, I suspect he would start G2 against another RHP.

I think you just came up with the solution to keeping Shelton from starting VanMeter at 2B from now on:  make Knapp the starting catcher and VanMeter his back-up.  Diabolical.

The absurdity of modern baseball. Reds start a pitcher for 3 batters. >:(
