As the roster is now constituted Shelton can't do too much damage on Sundays. They have 12 nonpitchers and 1 has to DH. that leaves 3 on the bench and 1 is the backup catcher. The other 2 on the bench today are Chavis and Castillo. Chavis is only hitting .200 vs RHP but that's still better than VanMeter (.196). But with only 2 noncatchers on the bench, Shelton's options are limited. And with Shelton, the fewer options he has, the better.

Watching the Reds’ feed. They indicated Greene went to about 50 % sliders a game or two ago. He has thrown a bunch today and looks tough.

The Pirates are making Greene look unhittable but he's got a 6+ ERA. His previous start was hit best (5.1 IP, 4 hits, 2 runs). The start before that was 2.2 IP, 9 hits, 8 runs, 5 HRs).

don't the Reds know to take Greene out to protect his arm?
