It looks like Shelty has to visit his proctologist to see where his head is! I think it's up his arse for playing JVM

After hitting .081 for July, I guess they are looking for that hidden vigorish in JVM. It worked last night for Madris, who hit .074 in July, was 0-21 when he finally got a hit

I’m a very happy person, except when the Pirates do something stupid. So it only seems like I’m unhappy all the time.

When Brown and Walk interviewed BC during the Milwaukee series he noted that they had a group meeting to discuss issues such as playing time and such. I was hoping that this meant that VanMeter's days as a starter were essentially over.

Soon thereafter Madris started at first, Marcano was in the line-up, and Mitchell was either in the field or at DH. Trying to be an optimist, I am hoping that VanMeter's start is mostly an abnormality and that we won't see him in a similar capacity for the next 5+ games. If that is not the case, then I will be disappointed in BC for not putting a stop to this practice.

VanMeter offers nothing --- Poor defensively, lousy at the plate, and hopefully, no future with the team. On any given night the Pirates have been starting at least 5 players who qualify as rookies. That should always be the case going forward.

When you start looking at the construction of the team, it's interesting that if they want a platoon at first, they have Madris/Chavis. You have three excellent middle infielders in Cruz/Newman/Marcano to man SS and 2B.

The OF has actual outfielders, and Marcano plays a good LF as well. Allen, Reynolds, Gamel, Madris, Mitchell all can play the OF, with the only negative being Mitchell's arm.

You have the DH to give a guy a day off from the field, like tonight with Cruz, and keep them getting AB's. DH is kind of being used as a carousel on the Pirates, as it is in most of MLB.

Which begs the question, is VanMeter on the team for no other reason than he's the emergency catcher? That can be the only explanation. He has no value, and no place to play. Quite honestly, hindsight being 20/20, if they weren't going to send him packing with Tsutsugo, I'd have preferred they kept Tsutsugo then.

Not at the game tonight. Planning to go tomorrow. At least I won't have to watch VanMeter in person. It's absolutely DISGUSTING that he plays.

Brubaker has nothing tonight. Pirate broadcast is blacked out here when playing the Orioles. PBP guy Scott Garceau and analyst Ben McDonald (former pitcher) are better at talking about the Pirates than the Pirate announcers. They focus entirely on then action and the players. No silliness. No "zip, zap, kazoo." No trip, trip, triple." No eating in the booth. No running jokes throughout the game. They don't even call each other by nicknames! OTOH, the Pirate announcers were much better in the Brewers series. So hopefully they were told to change their style.

Brubaker might not make it thru the 2nd inning. But would a manager who would start VanMeter even be aware his pitcher was struggling?
