Collins can't hit. Period. He's a career .237 hitter in the minors and .195 in the majors. In the past when rosters could expand to as many as 40 in September, every team brought up a 3rd string catcher for emergencies. But now they can only recall 2 extra players. I'm guessing Cherington only picked up Collins to have a 3rd string catcher for September, and they have to occasionally throw him s bone and give him a few ABs.

Until the debacle in the 9th, last night’s game was one of the most enjoyable of the year. Fun, competitive, and some exciting play. Ortiz was impressive on the mound. Hopefully, Contreras can match Ortiz’s performance. Is Bednar back tonight?

I’m sure glad Harrison Bader doesn’t play for the Cardinals anymore.

I looked back at records over about 70 years and the fewest wins to lead a Pirate team for a full season (excluding strike years and 2020) was Stratton with 7 wins last year. This year no one has more than 5 wins. Doesn't look good for anyone getting as many as 7 this season.
