The Pirates have agreed to a deal with free agent catcher Austin Hedges, according to The New York Post’s Jon Heyman (Twitter link). Hedges, a client of the Boras Corporation, will receive $5MM.

Hedges will be a good transition for Endy Rodriguez. Now two players must be removed from 40 man roster.

He hit .163 last season, so .189 will seem awesome! I read on the MLB site he has the most runs saved by catchers since some time frame they picked and I don't remember.



At least he comes from a team that has a winning culture. I guess Perez hamstring just isn't healed. We'll just keep signing FA catchers from Cleveland until we get it right.



I like the move, but man it just really sucks to have position players who are not much better than pitchers hitting. I really hope Endy Rodriguez plays his way onto the roster and his bat plays in MLB.



Maybe banning the shift will help him out!

Shelton will find someone to protect him in the lineup. That might help him stay at 189.



I'm actually okay with his signing, he may be able to help the Bucco pitchers better than any other catcher and by halfway through the season Endy may be able to replace him most of the time.

Won't help any pitcher if all he hits is .189.  Team doesn't score runs as it is.



I take it back. He'll help the opposing pitchers.

Maybe with the ban on shifts he'll improve to .190.

He played for Cleveland so he must be good.
