Strasburg finally lost today. He's now 13-1. Unless he wins out, Elroy Face's winning pct record of .947 (18-1 in 1959) looks safe. Every other qualifying pitcher has at least 2 losses this year. Ironically, Face took the loss on opening day 1960.
Incidentally, 1959 was an interesting year for the Pirates. Having transformed from the laughingstock of the 1950s into a 2nd place team in 1958, they traded their best player in Frank Thomas to acquire LHP Harvey Haddix (a former 20-game winner), C Smoky Burgess and 3B Don Hoak only to regress to only 78-76 and 4th place in 1959. Despite that, Haddix pitched his near-perfect game for 13 innings, Vern Law went 18-9, Elroy Face was a record-setting 18-1, and Dick Stuart had a fine year hitting .297 with 27 HRs.
