It'll be interesting to see what becomes of the Padres down the line if this budget gamble they've made continues to not pay off.

Geez, Machado gets drilled in the back but he is in today's starting line-up while Soto sits one out.
I thought that the Padres were trying to climbing back into the pennant race. Perhaps the Padres have been consulting the Pirates' analysts and manager regarding the need for rest. Or, perhaps Soto needs some recuperation time after last night's home run and the accompanying gaze and bat flip.

Oviedo off to a rocky start. Kim singles and Tatis walks. Still no one out.

Oveido will have a pitch count of 100 at this rate and only throw 80

Bogaerts lines out to sort. After that shaky start, just 11 pitches and no runs for Oviedo. Onto the 2nd, no score.
