In ML phase, Pirates select LHP Tyler Webb from Yankees' Triple-A roster



Pirates just lost LHP Cesilo Pimentel in Triple-A phase of draft. He went 2-3 with a 2.65 ERA at Low-A last season.

Here's an article on him from last year. Fairly hot prospect sidelined by an injury. His numbers look OK, but he's certainly not young. He's not a "hide him on the roster" Rule 5 pickup, he's either major league ready or never will be.

The Yankees like to pump up their prospects. That said, he does look promising. It seems like a pretty good deal to get him for nothing. It doesn't seem like he's struggled much or got stuck in the minors like many other Rule 5 guys. I'm optimistic.

Looks to me like this puts the odds of Watson being traded a little greater.

They do seem to have a lot of left-handed options on their roster.

We've got a bunch of lefties slotted for the bullpen right now -- Bastardo, LeBlanc, Watson and now Webb (and I forgot Rivero!). Either Watson or Bastardo (or even both) will be gone by ST one would think.

I see he has started some games. Could they think of him as a starter?
