I agree. I think his steady defense is underrated and, tho not a stud with the bat, he hits well enough to keep his glove in the game. IMHO, he's similar to Gene Alley.

I like Jody, but stepping back and being objective for a minute, isn't he just an average player? He's still under arb for a few more seasons and after that we might be seeing our recently drafted MI prospects knocking on the door.

One suggestion was that the Pirates were looking at buying out the last two years of arb eligibility.

I wouldn't worry about him blocking any top prospects. The Pirates have a tendency to extend players and them trade them before the contract expires.

13 over 3. He'll get 2 this season and 4 in '18 anyway.
