Just a few thoughts today.
1. What to do about McCutchen?
2. What to do about Cole?
3. Just saw the Astros put Correa on the DL with something regarding thumb ligaments. Depending on the severity, he could miss the rest of the year. I wonder if they would have any interest in Mercer? I know they'e been linked to Cole.
4. If we somehow manage to stay in this thing, NH needs to look at acquiring an outfielder. If they somehow manage to luck out and win the division, he can't seriously plan to play a playoff series with John Jaso or Adam Frazier in left field, can he? This seems like the perfect fit for a waiver trade. For instance, say we're two games out on August 28. I could see them picking up an albatross contract for an outfielder. They may need him in the playoffs; they may not. The only thing we know is that Marte isn't playing in the playoffs. Maybe that's where Kang and Marte's money goes.
5. Do we try to move Cervelli? Catching is always in demand, I think Diaz is ready. Heck, I think he's our best catcher RIGHT NOW, but that's beside the point.

Luplow down in AAA has been crushing the ball all year and he plays LF.
Really excited about him, a college kid who has progressed like you want.
Might get a better offer on Cutch in the off season.More teams to work with . have been yelling sell high, but i m starting to think he has really found his way out of slump and isn`t just hot.
Need to bring up Barult

I am open to any trade depending on the return. I think Cole is more likely than Cutch, although, if Cutch could go 10-20 with 3 homers in the next 5 games that would be awesome. I am going to predict a Harrison/Watson trade.

Most folks thoughts on this thread could go into hyper-drive based on what happens over the next 3 games.
Like most, I'm hoping that the Bucs over-perform for the rest of this series and that they do the unthinkable --- they sweep the Brewers. If so, it will be good to think about who could be added; something it was hard for me to fathom talking about as recently as even 2 short weeks ago.
But, if they tank and lose the next 3, I believe they have to think about who to move to try and add more pieces for a renewed run in 2018.
In short, will hold onto my thoughts until Friday.
Go Bucs. Let's cause the Brewers' some heart palpitations.
P.S. Hoping that Marte returns with a great game. Time to make a statement Starling. We missed you.

1. Nothing right now. If someone offers a large package this offseason you consider, otherwise pencil him in the #3 spot for 2018.
2. Basically the exact same sentence as #1. If your NH you can't do a major sell right now, 2018 looks a lot more promising than it did a few months ago. McCutchen is back, guys like Harrison, Bell, and Polanco are looking like solid MLB starters, Mercer, Freese, Frazier and Cervelli are all under contract for next year. The starting pitching has been one of the best in the majors over the last month or so and the bullpen has reoriented itself with Rivero as the closer. Heck, maybe even Kang comes back next year.
There's also built in depth for 2018 with prospects like Moroff, Luplow, Meadows, Kramer, Newman, Glasnow, Brault, etc.

If we lose two of three look to deal anything not under contract 2019 but including RIvero.
If you get what you need take the deal, but don't sell cheap. Short of wAtson in Nicasio, there is no one we a desperate to move. I'd love to come, out of this with Tucker from HOuston, Frazier from NY, the OF in AAA from the Dodgers or Robles plus a middle infielder and a pitcher or two.

Seems like the team wants to make things difficult for NH.

Indeed. Still lots of baseball, even in this series. But, it's off to a promising start. Too bad we dug ourselves such a hole that we almost have to go 4-0 in this series. It's so incredibly difficult to sweep a four game set in MLB. We have ten games left with the Brewers. I think we need to go 7-3 in those games.
It will be very interesting to see what happens if we continue to stay hot.

I guess I'd ask how much you'd be willing to pay in order to be either the worst team to sneak into the playoffs or the best team to just barely miss. A lot, I suppose. I still wouldn't surrender much at the cost of next year, though.
Still there should be a few places where we can strengthen that shouldn't cost that much.

I'm getting more concerned about the Cubs than the Brewers.
That said, worst case scenario for standing pat is that they wouldn't get a return for watson and nicasio. But looking at those two trades that were made yesterday for rentals, might as well just keep them and try to make the playoffs this year. The White Sox, who had been shrewd dealers, gave up their two remaining trade chips for one good pitching prospect. The Tigers traded the best hitter on the market for a group of meh guys. That would lead me to believe that the two Pirate relievers would not fetch much as rentals.
