MLB Trade Rumors predicts Pirates will sign Jerrod Dyson for 12 million over 2 years. Seems pricy for 4th outfielder to me. Plus he is 33 and his game is built on speed.

2. Jarrod Dyson – Pirates. Two years, $12MM. The speedy Dyson served as a part-time center fielder for the Royals for seven seasons before they traded him to the Mariners for Nate Karns in January this year. Just with baserunning and defense, Dyson can be a two-win player, as he was in 111 games for the Mariners this year. He’ll require a platoon partner (career .215/.293/.259 against lefties) but can bring plenty of value to a team as a fourth outfielder or a platoon option at any outfield spot. https://www.baseball-reference.com/play ... ja01.shtml

Why would they even need him?

they don't unless Polanco, Cutch or Marte aren't available and Meadows is considered a long shot for any help in 2018.

I'd totally take a fourth OF

Heck, last year I would have taken a third outfielder.

Assuming no Kang:

So, I don't think they should go after Todd Frazier. And they won't be in the bidding for Moustakas. But what about seeing if they can bring back hometown guy Neil Walker to play 3rd? He's played there a little. He can also spell Jay Hay at 2nd. Freese can get a start here and there against LHPs.

Sign him for one with an option? I know they don't have or won't spend the money.

I like the idea of signing Walker but I also have some doubts about his health status.  He does have some back issues and has only averaged 112 games played since he left the Buccos.

And he has added 1B to his repertoire of positions so he is like another super utility infielder, dont we have enough of them on the team?

Still, it would be nice to have a healthy Walker back at 2B and move JHay to 3B and we settled with those two positions until we see how some of the kids do in 2018.

We have Jordan Luplow. Even so, I'm ok with signing a 4th or 5th OF who can play center field well, but only if he is dirt cheap.

I think the Walker bridge was burned down. Walker wanted to stay and Huntington didn't want him back. I would think Walker wouldn't want to come back to Pittsburgh.

Moustakas is projected by MLB Trade Rumors to get $17 million a year. That isn't much to me, but probably too much for the Pirates. I sure hope they try and at least make offers.

The Pirates need a back up Outfielder, but I don't see them spending $6 million on one. Rodriguez can play defense and probably will be the defensive sub. I hope they get a guy with some pop and who can fill in. I like Osuna's bat, but he is not an outfielder. I'd rather have some more experience than Luplow.

I like Dyson, he is a very solid OF and has a decent bat with speed. Could play any of the OF spots. But knowing the cheap skate front office and Bottom Line Bob, they will go the cheapest route...Luplow impressed me. I don't know if they will sit a young player like him and keep him as a 4th outfielder. "Serpico" Rodriguez is definitely a solid all around utility type. I look for them to hang onto him.

Agree that Walker burned his bridges with No Deal Neal earlier. He will not be in the Bucs plans.

Should be an interesting dilemma as they need more OF depth.

Beat'em Bucs 8-)
