Mets to Sign Jay Bruce

Post by fjk090852-7 »

It is being reported Jay Bruce is signing a three year deal with the Mets for $39 million. I doubt if it could happen, but could the Bucs offer Cutch the same type of deal. Cutch has a better lifetime average than Bruce, but Bruce has hit more homers, and has the edge in rbi. I am sure Cutch will probably get traded, but a last chance to extend him would be public relations coup.

It wasn't a pay raise for Bruce. He got $13 million in 2017 according to Baseball Reference.

He'll make $14.5M in 2018.  If he'd sign a three year extension at his exact same salary like Bruce just did (which would be 3/$43.5), I think it would be good for both for him and the team.  We CAN afford that, even if he is not the same elite player as in the past.

Maybe my proposal of 4/$70 million is too much for McCutchen now?

One baseball man on Jay Bruce’s 3-year, $39M deal with the #Mets: “Clearly, all of the free agents are getting antsy. I understand why he took it. A lot of guys are going to do much worse.” Between 25 and 30 outfielders are still unsigned.

That also makes me ask why trade cutch now if OFers are growing on trees.

It definitely wouldn't be my initial offer at this point.

No Bruce's contract would probably be comparable at this point.

He is not resigning here. I would imagine he would want to go to a team that has a chance to compete for a title. That ain't happening here. Now is the time to deal him. Give away? No, but don't ask for the moon either. Get something in return.
