An Additional Bench Player Needed

At this time there appears to be 12 position players who have locks to come north in April. They are as follows: Cervelli, Diaz, Bell, Harrison, Mercer, Moran, Marte, Polanco, S. Rod, Nava, Freese, Frazier. Players like Moroff, Luplow and Osuna have a chance to fill the one remaining opening, but I would prefer if the Bucs would sign another veteran to take the final spot. A player who could fill that position would be Cameron Maybin. A spring training trade of Harrison could change the complexion of the 13 position players, but as it now stands I would hope that they attempt to bring in another veteran outfielder.

I think they have too many bench players and they are all very similar. Freese, Rodriguez, Moroff, Osuna, Frazier/Luplow, and Diaz. And who knows if a spring training superstar doesn't emerge as that seems to happen a lot.

I wouldn't say Nava is a lock to come North. He's on a minor league contract and may or may not impress at Spring Training.

He is the example of "he had a great spring, we had to bring him north".

I still think trading Harrison will solve some mysteries to the bench. Plus, Harrison should bring back something major league ready.

I would prefer to trade Harrison for something NOT major league ready. Would prefer someone 2-3 years away from major league ready who may be able to provide production when the team will (hopefully) be playoff competitive again.

The Brewers could probably use Harrison, but I would hate to see him playing the Pirates 18 times a season. The Yanks are also a possibility, but since we could not get a deal done with them for Cutch I doubt if something can get done with a deal for Harrison.

It seems to me they are trying to rebuild with major league ready players. If that is the case, bring in another 24-25 year old to grow together now.

As long as the FO is still trying to sell the idea that they are not rebuilding and can compete, they are not going to move Harrison on the heels of the unpopular Cutch and Cole trades. I'm sure they're concerned about season ticket sales. But as the season progresses and they can no longer pretend to be competing, they are likely to deal him with an explanation that the season did not go as planned so they are making moves to benefit them in the near future.

That is a bad strategy in my opinion. No one goes to see Harrison play. Season tickets are already down. Why not get all the negative press at once than open up that book again come late July?

Harrison also plays a position where they have guys to take over too. Just do it now, get it over with!

Milwaukee's depth chart on the site is a bit weird. They have Villar backing up Sogard. Soward isn't good. Villar is much better. They really don't need Harrison. Even if they want to go that route, who cares if he is playing Pittsburgh 18 times at this point? It's not like we are competing for anything special, but fourth at best in the division.

You mean Cole with the Yanks, not Cutch. I'm sure Cashman is done dealing with NH for a while.
