It would appear that Osuna will come north unless they decide to have an 8 man bullpen. If they go with 8 men I bet they go back to 7 and a 5 man bench for opening day in Pittsburgh.

I wasn't expecting that.

Me either. Perhaps Mgt just felt the internal options were better. If so, I commend them for both bringing Brentz in a for a serious tire-kicking, and also for cutting him loose.

Are they going to put Osuna in the outfield again?

Maybe they hope Brentz clears waivers and they can put him in the minors (if he agrees, of course). If so, there are so many guys like him around.

Looking at his career MiLB stats, last year certainly appears to be an outlier. Maybe he figured something out, but I’d think it much more likely that he just had a good year.

Tough call on Osuna. They like his bat but he's got nowhere to play. And if they open with 13 pitchers another bench guy has to go. Despite his strong arm, he was a disaster in the OF last year, often looking totally lost on fly balls. But last year, they often carried only 2 OFers counting Frzier (with Jaso and Osuna having to fill in by default. Now they've got 3 OFers in addition to Frazier and S-Rod on the bench. He's a good 1Bman but Bell is there. He's played 3B in ST this year but S-Rod, Freese and Frazier are already on the bench and capable of playing there. Freese and S-Rod also can back up at 1B. I'm guessing he's the last cut and they open with 13 pitchers. If Freese, who s now superfluous, is later moved, it would open the door to Osuna returning as a backup at 1B and 3B and PHing.

I've got to think that Osuna will not be playing in the OF this year. They have Frazier and SRod to put out there. There currently isn't any place for Osuna on the roster, until/if Freese is either traded or left go.

That's what I thought too. I don't even know where Osuna would play in the minors. I thought Brentz was a lock to make the team as he is an actual outfielder.

I imagine he will see some time in right. Bench guys don't have to be great defensively.
