Pirate Prospects is reporting the Bucs have optioned Nick Kingham to Indy. A corresponding move has not yet been made. Hopefully Osuna is recalled.

I expected Osuna to be up, but not Kingham down.



I don't like that move. Kingham was pretty good in his two starts. A fifth starter isn't needed for a while. Brault is left-handed. Glasnow gains nothing in the minors. Kuhl just went seven innings. Kingham is getting number crunched, but I didn't expect him to go to the bullpen.

I'm surprised but from what I read, this is based on the volume of off days in May and their desire to keep the starters on as normal a rotation as possible. In other words, a temporary 4-man rotation. So they might as well bring up another hitter, hopefully Osuna. The question is going to be whether Kingham returns in a few weeks (1 bad innings in 2 starts is pretty darn good) or Musgrove slides into that spot.

I am hoping to see Indy play Wednesday and was looking forward to seeing Osuna. However....it will be Kingham's 5 day???

Why didn't they wait until tomorrow to announce it?

Because he can come back up in 10 days if need be. Why delay a day for no reason?

they want him to keep starting. Why leave him up to go out of the bullpen? Stay on schedule and be ready in 2weeks when they need him.

Thoughts of the team possibly going to a six man rotation, which would include Kingham, when Musgrove comes back? I think that it would work. Just thinking.

No big deal, teams just normally seem wait until the last minute in case something goes bad with the call up. How many times have we heard a minor leaguer "was seen in the clubhouse" before the official move?
