Any thoughts on the way the Rays used Sergio Romo this past weekend?

I thought it was silly but after reading the article, there's a method to the madness.

The starter will have to face them eventually. Wouldn't you rather them do damage early so you have time to catch up? Weird moved, but it worked.

According to the article, the 1st inning is the one in which most runs are scored and this move provided a better 1st inning matchup. The idea is to eliminate the early damage rather than having time to catch up.

Understood, but the starter has to face these guys say in the 4th inning where damage can also be done and now you have less time to catch up.

I don't see this catching on, but it is interesting.

In the grand scheme of things, what's the big deal? The manager thought it was the best route to go to win the game. Anaheim feasts on that first inning. If anything, its a detriment to TB, so again, what's the point? They won. Isn't that the goal.

What's the big deal of anything we discuss on the board in the grand scheme of things?

Sorry for bringing up an unusual strategy to discuss on a discussion board. I should have ran it past you first.

And Tampa Bay did not win both games. Trout went 2-5, 2 RBI, 3 Runs, and 3 BBs.
