Not a fan of giving both JHay and Dickerson the day off today when you have lost 6 of your last 9 and this is a game you need to win today within the division where every game matters. Maybe it will work out today but I don’t agree with Hurdle doing this. You just had a day off Monday and have had a lot of days off the last 2-3 weeks, and JHay has been off for 5 weeks he doesn’t need a day off yet he just doesn’t I don’t care what anybody says. Meanwhile, Polanco continues to suck and play everyday.

Agree 100% Freddy. I don't like this lineup.

This is a big game to decide the series against a division rival.

So why are we giving J-Hay the day off (when he recently had 40 days off) and why are we going with Polanco over Dickerson?

Not a good idea in my opinion ... at least not if the goal is to give the team the best possible chance to WIN TODAY'S GAME.

Yea I mean these division games when the race is this tight are like 2 wins almost win you do win a game or a series because every game is like a 2 game swing almost in the standings. I understand guys need days off and rest through the course of the season but don’t do in a key division series against a team like the Cardinals who you are neck and neck with in the division and neck and neck for a current wildcard spot with as well. Give guys like JHay a rest or Dickerson a rest against non division teams like the Mets or the Dodgers in a few weeks where every win or loss isn’t essentially a 2 game swing in the standings. Like I said before maybe it ends up working out today and the Pirates score 10 runs but that still doesn’t make it the right decision to rest those guys in such a key division game at home in late May.

But Hurdle has always managed like this. As if no game if more important than another and that resting is better than winning. So the Cards got the benefit of not having to face Meadows yesterday or Dickerson today and the added benefit of facing Polanco both days. I've never like Hurdle. He just doesn't seem to put a premium on winning. As Freese said prior to the season, "I walk in every day, and the demand to win just hasn't been in the air. That's what you need."

Well first and foremost today Taillon needs to get back on track and pitch better period. His last win was 7 weeks ago today on April 8th against the Reds. The Pirates are 21-21 since that game and still 5 games over .500 on Memorial Day weekend without Taillon winning one game in a span of almost 2 months. So had you told me that back then I never would have believed it. I think Taillon is gonna pitch well today. I feel he is too good and has too much talent to keep losing games every start. He will need to be good today facing a guy like Mikolas who has been really good so far this season.

Josh Bell is another guy who is just not having a good year so far at all. He only has 3 home runs hitting in the cleanup spot most of the season, his average is now in the .250’s, and his OPS is in the low 700’s. So while many including myself continue to complain and want something done with Polanco Bell also needs to start getting it going as well. He has just not been good at all so far these first few months.

Why was Cervelli scratched?

Moran ties it up. 1-1.

He had flu like symptoms they said right before the game. Meanwhile, two more hits for Meadows today and 2 more strikeouts for Polanco today. He is slowly but surely on his way to his average dipping below .200.

Maybe that's what it will take to wake Hurdle up.

This is looking like a game today where one more run might be the difference in winning this game and both JHay and Dickerson two of your better contact hitters who both put the ball in play and don’t strikeout aren’t playing. Instead we got to see Polanco strikeout looking in two at-bats instead and contribute nothing so far. If I’m Hurdle which I’m sure he won’t do I’m batting Dickerson for Polanco next time he is up if there is a man in scoring position and this game is still tied.
