I get the romantic notion that Sean Rodriguez is a piece that helps this team. It would be a nice story, but it isn't the truth. It is my position that he needs DFA'd. It diminishes our lineup each time he makes another plate appearance. He is a neat personality and he made his organizational mark in his first tour of duty, but his time should end.

Remember Mark Belanger, the Orioles good field-no hit shortstop? His career BA was .228. But he once somehow hit .287. And .270. And .266. Over 18 seasons.

Rodriguez career BA is....drum roll....228. But he once hit .270 with 18 HRs. He also had seasons hitting .204, .200, .223. ,213, .211, .167 and his current .172. Rodriguez is Mark Belanger with more power and versatility. Rodriguez' career BA remains slightly ahead of other famed non-hitters like Ed Brinkman (.224) and Rafael Belliard (.221).

Rodriguez is no more a .270 hitter than Mark Belanger was. But sometimes the stars align and everything works out in your favor. Rodriguez will always perform much more like a guy who can't hit than one who can. He's useful off the bench as a defensive specialist and a great attitude to have in the dugout.  But thers's no reason for Hurdle to try to get that bat in the lineup too often.

Rodriguez just needs to be used as a runner and for defense. Late defense do he doesn't have to bat. There is a role for that type of player, but he isn't being used that that.

I am not a stat geek, but my eyes tell me he is not a sure handed defender anymore.

Because of one error?

He has limited touches with an error that shows on the stat sheet. What the stat sheet doesn't show is the bobbles that did result in an out but were very shaky and plays that could have been made by a smoother set of hands that weren't labeled an error. Like I said, my opinion was anecdotal based on my visual assessment through the TV screen. And of course my opinion is biased based on his horrendous plate appearances.

Hurdle loves him though, .160 hitter and a error machine. So sick of this crap won't watch, and I hope fans don't show up until something is done about this management on this team.

I tear it all down. First I fire Hurdle, then I trade Harrison and Cervelli and float Marte and see what I get. I move Nova and then when the day is over....... fire Huntington and Coonely.
