Cervelli back behind the plate and we still have two other catchers on the roster? I don't understand this. (Not that Luplow would have made a huge difference.)

Because of the concussion protocol they are being very careful with Cervelli. The other day he took a foul off the mask and they took him out of the game early. That left them with no other catcher if Diaz had become injured later. S-Rod was the emergency catcher but he's not available either. Enter Stallings. :)

Taillon was cruising along then falls apart in the 4th and gives up 3 runs as the Bucs now trail 3-2. The Pirates pretty much need to win this game tonight they can’t afford a loss in this game and fall further back.

Dissapointing loss tonight for sure. Bucs missed another chance to pull within 4 games of the 2nd wildcard with the Phillies losing. This road trip which started out 3-1 has all of a sudden turned into a 4-4 trip. The Pirates absolutely have to win this game tomorrow with Archer on the mound. Can’t afford another loss to a bad team. Time is starting to run out on the Pirates.

Unfortunately Dickerson has cooled way off and he seems to be the guy that lights the fire on this offense and when he's not hitting this team is awful. I don't understand why Frazier isn't in this piss poor lineup, someone needs to get this offense moving, but quick. I truly don't understand this GM making moves to satisfy the fans but ignores our biggest problem Hurdle and this coaching staff.

I think they are who we thought they were.  An 82 and 80 club who are way too streaky to be a playoff team.  I have no problem with the trades...during the trade deadline.  I will keep watching hoping for one more streak, but it does not look promising.  Can we play Frazier in right tomorrow...please?  Polonco needs a rest...no really.

Polanco has suddenly gone really cold over the last few weeks which is another big big reason the Pirates are having so much trouble consistently winning a bunch of games in a row. The Pirates also need to start playing Frazier more and bench JHay for now. He is swinging a hot bat and needs to be in the lineup until he cools off. As I mentioned last night there are now 42 games remaining and the Pirates are 5 games out of a playoff spot. They are going to really need a streak of something like 9 of 22 or something like that. This win one game lose two games then win another game is not going to work here moving forward very soon. A long streak of wins at some point needs to happen and happen soon.

Big turning point in this game when West called Harrison out on ball at least 6 inches outside with runner on third and one out.

Could have scored a few more there and maybe broken game open. I'm all for a laser calling balls and strikes, too many umpires have "their" strike zone.

Frazier's been hitting too god. Had to be cooled off. He got the obligatory day off following a day off. But Clint the Confused knows that not putting out the best lineup contributes to losses now but makes them more likely to win later. The proof is that they had losing records the past 2 Sept/Octs. Oh wait, never mind.
