Those of us that wanted to see Happ back in Blank and Gold, can forget it. Happ is signing a multi year with the Yanks.

I think he was a top target for them once Washington signed the main guy.

Yea, the rich get richer and the Pirates talk about starting a reliever instead of a starting pitcher... Butt backwards way of addressing a pitching need...But our beloved cheap skate, low payroll, budget conscious, miserly, tight-fisted, cellar dwelling dumb heads in the front office.... have a plan

It is beyond me how this front office can get rid of Nova and say with a straight face "we like our internal options (Kingham and Brault) to fill that role."
Yea, and you "like our internal options" at SS and RF, too.
NUTTING & NH ... PLEASE GET SOME REAL PLAYERS.
Look, maybe we can survive in RF if Polanco comes back sooner than expected (not likely), but MAYBE we'll get lucky and it will work out.
But, before March, this organization absolutely MUST get:
1. A Major League SS; and
2. A Major League Starting Pitcher (AND WE ACTUALLY NEED 2 NOW SINCE WE JUST GAVE ONE AWAY FOR NOTHING!!!).

Ha, fair point and I will have to concede.
But as we bemoan the loss of Ivan Nova the Indians are likely going to trade away a much better pitcher to (suprise!) the Dodgers. Why? Not because they want to for sure.

The finances of MLB make it impossible for the Pirates to compete for established, productive free agents or even to trade for them. However, it shouldn't prevent them from acquiring good enough players who would make the payroll close to the MLB average. That's the problem. They maintain a very low payroll always in the range of 25th to 30th in MLB. They aren't even remotely close to the MLB average and they seem to be shedding salary. And as we learned after the previous "We'll spend when the time is right" or "We'll spend when the fans support us" comments, there will never be a right time. Not even after a 98 win season with record setting attendance. I wonder if at the winter meetings, NH has to stay outside in the dumpster.
