Apparently picked him up from the Padres as they got him from the south siders in the rule 5. Sounds intriguing and not sure if he needs to stay in the bigs or he is a minor league rule 5 guy. Not sure how that works...

I am not completely sure how a minor league rule 5 works, but I am sure he does not have to be on the 25 man MLB roster. It appears that the Pirates are acquiring some lower level minor league pitchers this offseason. I guess they hope some will develop into big league pitchers.
